Sweet Tooth

Sugar makes me happy (with the exception of Cherry Twizzlers) and it's easy to turn to junk food when I'm bored or overwhelmed. I've been trying to cut back on sugar because I honestly don't think it's beneficial to rely on candy to make me feel better and being in college has taught me so much about valuing discipline. I'm becoming more intentional about how I spend my time and energy daily so that I can be well in my spirit, soul, and body. So even if I never cut out sweets from my diet completely, I know that there are healthier ways to satisfy my sugar cravings without feeling like trash later. Here are some tips that work for me:
1) Drink water! It's something we all say but how many of us actually drink 64oz of water daily? Often times dehydration makes me think that I'm hungry when in reality, my body just wants water. Learn to listen to your body.
2) Strawberries, Grapes, Mangoes, Banana's are nature's candy! It may take a while to learn to love natural flavors but after they'll grow on you and you'll find your preferences! Make a smoothie or snack on frozen or dried fruits.
3) Try a candida cleanse. I found that this one by Health's Harmony is great for cleaning candida (which often increases your desire to consume sugar) out of your system and aid in clearing yeast infections.
4) Don't deprive yourself. Cutting sugar and candy out completely is only going to make you want it more. Develop a reward system so that you can effectively discipline yourself.
5) Get active! Dance to Beyonce or take a power walk. Finding ways to release energy will help you manage your stress and get you out of a chair so you don't end up snacking mindlessly.
